The cities of Ajmer and Pushkar in Rajasthan are of religious and historical significance. Surrounded by the Aravalli mountains the city of Ajmer was earlier ruled by Rajputs and then later came under Mughal empire. The city has served as a place of strategic importance for various battles in history.
Pushkar is just 16 km from Ajmer and with a lake in the heart of the city the place just lights up in the evening. The city is a pilgrimage site for Hindus and according to mythology, some petals of Lord Brahma's lotus flower fell from his hand at this place and hence the name Pushp(Flowers) + Kar(Hand) which is Pushkar.
