Lansdowne: A blissful escape in Garhwals

Month of Visit: September, 2022

There are very limited places near Delhi that can be considered for a short vacation during weekends and Lansdowne is one such place. This small hill station in the Pauri-Garhwal region of Uttarakhand got its name from Lord Lansdowne, who was the Viceroy of India that time and visited here in 1884. Earlier Lansdowne was called Kaludanda which means Black Forest in Garhwali but in 1887 its name was changed to Lansdowne.

Lansdowne is also a cantonment area of the Indian Army and Garhwal Rifles regiment has its command office here. Because of the Army’s presence, the place is clean and well maintained. With its calm environment, natural beauty and less tourist crowd Lansdowne is certainly a place to visit.

In this guide, I have covered places you can visit in Lansdowne, route details, accommodation and food, best time to visit and some other important information. I have shared a glimpse of the places you can see in Lansdowne in this reel

With more and more tourists visiting these places it is important to be a responsible citizen so

  • Travel Responsibly

  • Carry garbage bags with you where you can put your wastes and later dump them in a dustbin

  • Do not play loud music while you drive or during the trek. It disturbs the peace of the people and animals there
