Chitkul - Sangla: The Two Scenic Paradise of Kinnaur

Month of Visit: June, 2022

Chitkul is a small village situated on the banks of Baspa river in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh and is the last inhabited village before the Indo - China border. Tourists from all over the country are drawn to Chitkul's abundant natural beauty. It boasts of several extremely beautiful and picturesque locations. The Baspa river that flows through the village divides it into two noteworthy terrains. While one side leaves you awestruck with snow-clad mountains, the other side is full of cozy wooden houses and pretty apple orchards. Most locals are either followers of Hinduism or Buddhism and use the Kinnauri language to communicate.

Sangla is another beautiful offbeat town to visit when you are going to Chitkul. It is 22km before Chitkul and offers you mesmerizing view of the snow capped Himalayan Mountains. Sangla means “Pass of Light” in tibetan and in the evening you will literally see the sunlight glowing the whole town . From Sangla you also get to witness the majestic backside view of Mount Kinner Kailash (One of 5 Kailash - the holy abode of Lord Shiva). You can check “Chitukul” stories in highlights section on my Instagram profile to enjoy some of the views. If you want to see the front view of Mount Kinner Kailash then you will have to go to Kalpa village which is 31 km from Sangla.

With more and more tourists visiting these places it is important to be a responsible citizen so

  • Travel Responsibly

  • Carry garbage bags with you where you can put your wastes and later dump them in a dustbin

  • Do not play loud music while you drive or during the trek. It disturbs the peace of the people and animals there
